No, you don’t do Forrest Yoga in the trees, though that has a certain appeal doesn’t it?  I can just imagine doing triangle, reaching high above as sunbeams light up the dirt floor while I soak in the smell of a nearby lake.  Sorry – hiatus.  My mind wanders.  So anyway, Forrest Yoga was named after creator Ana Forrest.  Is it me, or does it feel like everyone wants their “own” patented yoga now?

LA Yoga Magazine and YogaGlo partner to host a unique event called Here Comes the Sun this Friday, June 26th from 5-10pm.  Hm, I wonder if the title comes from the Beatles’ age old song “Here Comes the Sun”.  Anyway, I’m sure you’re curious what this is all about…

For those familiar with yoga, you know that Yoga classes aren’t cheap!  YogaWorks is offering 10 days of unlimited yoga for just $20 (new students only).  That’s a true steal considering that on average, that’s the cost of a single yoga class!  I checked out their class schedule, and YogaWorks offers quite an impressive list.  They have all types of yoga available – Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Kundalini, and that’s not even the full extent of it.

I posted awhile back about the contest ShareYoga was having this month – write a Haiku and possibly win a pink Yogitoes towel.  I submitted for fun, hoped for the best, and Won!  The rules required you to follow the rhythm of a traditional Japanese Haiku, and incorporate an animal and something about yoga in it.  This was my entry:

swan in still water
calm beating heart and clear mind
yoga, my refuge

Right when I was falling in love with my only yogitoes towel, I get one for free – this is greaaat news… thank you again ShareYoga!  I look forward to more of your posts and future contests.  :)

When I signed up online for today’s yoga class, I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite teacher, Valerie, teaching again!  She usually doesn’t teach on Mondays.  I’ve been trying to come to class earlier because I’ve found that it starts the class off right – I’m never rushing to get there and it gives me time to adjust to the heat.  Even though I got to class 15 minutes before start time, it was already halfway filled and almost every spot in the back row had been taken (I got the last spot, whew!).

So I just showered, then made myself some lunch after my morning Bikram Yoga class.  Today was a great Bikram Yoga day. I got there 20 minutes early so was only the 2nd person in the room.  I laid out my mat to reserve an optimal spot in the back of the room, then went back outside to chat it up with my favorite instructor.  By the way, when you guys choose your spots, do you usually gravitate towards the same general area?  If I could, I would probably stick to the same exact spot every single time – what can I say, I’m a creature of habit, so sometimes moving to a spot across the room makes me a bit disoriented.

antigravity yoga

Let’s have a competition… how many things can you label yoga?!  Ready, set, Go!

It just doesn’t end does it?  I thought my post on Laughing Yoga would be the most farfetched idea out there (maybe it still is), but there’s actually another form of “yoga” that might actually trump that one – who wudda thought?!  It’s a new phenomenon called Anti-gravity Yoga, and is apparently the new big thing now.

When I first saw the article titled “Edmond Climber Leaps into Yoga Plan” I didn’t know what to think!  The first thing that came to mind was it must be yet another yoga phenomenon – this time combining yoga and climbing.  I quickly racked my brain to think of what that scenario might look like – Uh, did it have to do with doing holding poses while tethered to the side of a rock wall?  Perhaps an attempt to do Triangle Pose in midair.  I was at a loss.

YogaBear tweeted a very useful article about the 77 Surprising Health Benefits of Yoga and I’m just reposting it here.  There are a lot of articles similar to this on the web, but I liked how this one’s pretty comprehensive – talking about the usual physical and emotional benefits, as well as the way yoga can prevent diseases and alleviate pain.  A lot of these are not immediate or quick fixes, but over the long run… I believe yoga will do wonders for our bodies as we age.
