The Master Cleanse Basics

Some people are curious about what this Master Cleanse requires so I’m going to break it down as easily and accurately as I can.  Do not deviate from or substitute anything.  There is a lot of hocus pocus out there about what you can or cannot do, but doing it the right way the first time will save you a lot of unnecessary headache.

Day 0: Detox tea (any herbal tea blend containing Senna) the night before you start the cleanse.

Days 1-10:

  • Salt Water Flush (SWF) or Detox tea right when you wake.  Must drink on an empty stomach.
  • Drink your first glass of lemonade about an hour after the SWF.
  • Try to drink every glass of lemonade within 10 minutes of making it.  The fresher the better.
  • 6-12 glasses of lemonade throughout the day.  They say you can even go up to 24 cups if you plan on being super active on this plan.
  • You can also drink water and any non-caffeinated herbal tea throughout the day along with your lemonade.
  • Detox tea every night before bed.

Days 11-13:

  • To wean yourself off this rigorous fast, you need to slowly add nutrients back into your system and not go food crazy.  The first few days off the cleanse should just be freshly squeezed orange juice, and some vegetable broth.

Now that you know what the cleanse entails, here are the exact recipes:

SALT WATER FLUSH (SWF):

  • 2 TEASPOONS of un-iodized sea salt.
  • 1 quart (32 ounces) of purified warm water.

LEMONADE (per serving)

  • 2 TBSP freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 TBSP GRADE B maple syrup
  • 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 8 ounces of purified water

As you read in my last post, I miserably failed my “first day” and was not mentally prepared to take on this cleanse.  My rashes are still getting to me despite not drinking Monster for 2 days now (I’m so tired by midday!).  I’m also trying not to take any Zyrtec.  Because of all the events I have going on this weekend, I’ve decided to attempt the cleanse starting next Monday.  Hopefully I follow through this time…

How long do you eat vegetable soup and orange juice before introducing solids again?

    1-3 days is the recommendation.

Here’s some steps in breaking the fast:
Day 1: Drinking fruit juices (orange juice, watermelon juice, grapefruit juice). You can also have some very soft porridge.
Day 2: Having some more juices and porridge, but you can have some salads and vegetables to slowly warm your body up.
Day 3: You may want to have some soft whole grain foods, more vegetables and fruits.
Day 4: The easing out phase is done. But it is advisable that to stay away from the meats and dairy products for a few more days.

Hope this helps! If you complete the cleanse, let me know how well it worked for you..
