Those who know me know that I am obsessed with books – old, new, borrowed – I don’t discriminate. If you haven’t already heard, there’s a new and rapidly growing online yoga community called Namaste Book Club. The first book they’ve chosen is The Heart of Yoga by T.K.V. Desikachar. I haven’t read too many yoga specific books, so this will be a great motivator, hopefully opening my eyes to a different side of yoga. Up until now, I’ve been mostly aware of the physical benefits of yoga, with little knowledge of the history and motivations behind its start. Am interested in seeing where this journey takes me…
To be honest, sometimes I am intimidated by the many seasoned yogi’s out there. They all seem to know what they’re talking about and have embraced yoga with their whole heart. Me… I’m not quite there yet. I don’t teach, I haven’t read many books on the subject, I don’t drive hours for a class; all I know is that I do love my practice, however small and limited it may be. But then again I wonder if even those “seasoned yogis” feel “not quite there yet”, perhaps they too feel like they are still on a journey. Hoping I’ll learn much from them in these yoga book discussions, and hoping I’ll have some insight of my own to offer.
The Namaste Book Club started discussions on the first few chapters two Sundays ago, and I’m just now trying to catch up. Hopefully I won’t be too behind this coming Sunday when I jump in with my thoughts! Some events in my life the past few weeks made it difficult to read, much less blog – let’s just say I heard some devastating news from a friend, more devastating news from another friend, made an impromptu trip up to San Francisco, and to top that off have been suffering from full body hives for the past two weeks rendering me useless to do yoga or any other physical activity. The hives are still here and the doctor haven’t been able to tell me what’s wrong. It’s incredibly frustrating. Might have to see an allergist later this week and try to figure out what could be possibly causing these outbreaks. I’d show you a picture, but I don’t want to scare you off.

Oh dear! So sorry to hear you’re not feeling your best.
Methinks the hives could be a result of stress, but do go check it out with a naturopath / allergy doc to find out the root cause of it.
In the meantime, rest + a really good book doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea!

thanks *M!! the only thing making this bearable is benadryl. i’ve never had hives this bad.. 2 weeks and counting now. i’ve never had hives that lasted more than a day! i will try to rest and hopefully it is just stress and goes away soon…
other possibilities i thought of – Monster energy drinks, which i used to drink everyday (completely stopped now… but maybe the toxins are still in my body) or perhaps my dogs? But I’ve had those dogs for awhile so it seems unlikely.

first i thought it was monster, then i thought it was coco so i took her away, but the hives are still here! actually, it’s better today but there’s still some remaining. yesterday was pretty bad though so now i’ve ruled out coco. so i’m not sure anymore what it could be??? it’s so frustrating.
