When I first wrote about laughing yoga, then again with antigravity yoga… I seriously thought the buck stopped there.  I’ve underestimated the phenomenon yoga has taken on the world, I wonder how many yoga spin-offs are out there.  I might just make it my mission to find them all!  My new discovery is a modern spin to yoga called Punk Rock Yoga.  Has yoga fusion gone too far?  Let’s see if this truly is a form of yoga or if it’s all talk with none of the walk!

Happy Friday!!!  What are everyone’s plans for the weekend?  The sun is shining and its been in the beautiful, breezy 70s here in Southern California.  :)   Since I’ve been talking about my practice a bit more on my blog, I thought I’d show you guys where I actually sweat it all out.

Fixed Firm Pose

It was just one of them days. I stupidly slept at 2:30am last night and got in only 4 hours of sleep. I was debating about yoga, but had a hunch that getting my lazy butt there would make me feel better in the end. So I went. I was drowsy and had a headache (not the way you want to start a class), so I popped in an Advil to remedy the issue. I do that from time to time, especially when I get headaches. They say that an Aspirin a day is actually good for your health, but there are so many health claims out there… you can never be too sure.

LA Yoga Magazine and YogaGlo partner to host a unique event called Here Comes the Sun this Friday, June 26th from 5-10pm.  Hm, I wonder if the title comes from the Beatles’ age old song “Here Comes the Sun”.  Anyway, I’m sure you’re curious what this is all about…

yogaworks coupon

For those familiar with yoga, you know that Yoga classes aren’t cheap!  YogaWorks is offering 10 days of unlimited yoga for just $20 (new students only).  That’s a true steal considering that on average, that’s the cost of a single yoga class!  I checked out their class schedule, and YogaWorks offers quite an impressive list.  They have all types of yoga available – Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Kundalini, and that’s not even the full extent of it.

I posted awhile back about the contest ShareYoga was having this month – write a Haiku and possibly win a pink Yogitoes towel.  I submitted for fun, hoped for the best, and Won!  The rules required you to follow the rhythm of a traditional Japanese Haiku, and incorporate an animal and something about yoga in it.  This was my entry:

swan in still water
calm beating heart and clear mind
yoga, my refuge

Right when I was falling in love with my only yogitoes towel, I get one for free – this is greaaat news… thank you again ShareYoga!  I look forward to more of your posts and future contests.  :)

When I signed up online for today’s yoga class, I was pleasantly surprised to find my favorite teacher, Valerie, teaching again!  She usually doesn’t teach on Mondays.  I’ve been trying to come to class earlier because I’ve found that it starts the class off right – I’m never rushing to get there and it gives me time to adjust to the heat.  Even though I got to class 15 minutes before start time, it was already halfway filled and almost every spot in the back row had been taken (I got the last spot, whew!).

rockreation

Just a few days ago I wrote a post about Rock Climbing and Yoga in one studio, and hoped that the idea would spread far and wide.  Well, I guess my dreams have come true (or it’s not as new a concept as I thought)!  A good friend of mine recently informed me that the rock climbing gym he goes to around here in Costa Mesa, CA actually offers yoga classes too.  Rockreation has 3 locations in Southern California, so if you live around here you should look into it!  I should’ve known they’d already have something like this in California… is there anything this state doesn’t have?

This is an incredibly LATE Friday post, but I’ve been busy all day running around doing an engagement shoot, then it was my friend’s housewarming party.  I was, however, able to squeeze in another Bikram Yoga class first thing in the morning (2 days in a row – 4 times this week, hallelujah!) – ok that’s not much compared to, let’s say… 500… but baby steps.  That month-long hiatus must’ve a blessing in disguise because there’s new energy to my practice.

So I just showered, then made myself some lunch after my morning Bikram Yoga class.  Today was a great Bikram Yoga day. I got there 20 minutes early so was only the 2nd person in the room.  I laid out my mat to reserve an optimal spot in the back of the room, then went back outside to chat it up with my favorite instructor.  By the way, when you guys choose your spots, do you usually gravitate towards the same general area?  If I could, I would probably stick to the same exact spot every single time – what can I say, I’m a creature of habit, so sometimes moving to a spot across the room makes me a bit disoriented.
